DOWNTOWN KINGSTON

Downtown Kingston is vibrant, healthy, and provides a commercial, retail, residential, and entertainment centre to our region. It attracts many people to live, shop, work and gather all year round.

QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY

Queen’s University at Kingston is a public research university located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Founded on 16 October 1841 via a royal charter issued by Queen Victoria, the university predates the founding of Canada by 26 years.

Queen’s is a co-educational university, with more than 23,000 students, and with over 131,000 living alumni worldwide. Notable alumni include government officials, academics, business leaders and 56 Rhodes Scholars. The university was ranked 4th in Canada by Maclean’s University Ranking Guide for 2015, 187th in the 2014 QS World University Rankings, 251-275th in the 2013-2014 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and 201-300 in the 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Queen’s varsity teams, known as the Golden Gaels, compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

FORT HENRY

Fort Henry is located on Point Henry, a strategic, elevated point near the mouth of the Cataraqui River where it flows into the St. Lawrence River at the east end of Lake Ontario.

WATERFRONT

An 8km public waterfront pathway connecting to the downtown core extends from the King Street, near 1098 King St. W, to Emma Martin Park. This pathway also forms part of the 900km WaterfrontTrust Trail that runs from Niagara to Quebec and the southern terminus of Rideau Trail.

THOUSAND ISLANDS

Kingston is also the gateway to the Thousand Islands. The Thousand Islands constitute an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada-U.S. border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario.

They stretch for about 50 miles (80 km) downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario, the U.S. islands in the state of New York.
